Where to Find Things

Before attempting to operate the Lyco vent it is necessary to become familiar with the location of the major components, the sockets and switches as shown below:

Labeled LycoVent

The LycoVent uses a disposable Teleflex BMV resuscitator to generate pressure and volume controlled airflow to the patient via a Ventilator Breathing System (See: Breathing Circuit) that includes a Non-rebreathing and PEEP valve, flow sensor, pressure port and HME filter.

Set-up, control and monitoring of the LycoVent is via the User Interface touch screen and the rotating Encoder Knob on the top of the ventilator. When triggered alarms are evidenced by the flashing Alarm Bezel and an audible alarm.

Sensor connections are provided for cables from the external FiO2 and flow sensors along with a barbed connector for the PVC tubing from the pressure port in the Ventilator Breathing System.

The LycoVent uses a separate power pack to connect to the 240 V power supply. The power pack is fitted with a plug which locks into the socket on the LycoVent. Two power switches are fitted:

Key Switch

Used to turn off the mains power and the battery. It is only used for long term storage. If used while the ventilator is connected to a patient no alarm will sound. The key should be stored separately.

Standby Switch

A press button switch used to turn off the LycoVent between patients while on the ward. This switch does not turn off the power to the alarm system so will trigger a high-priority alarm if used while a patient is still connected.

Power usage in standby mode is minimal but will eventually flatten the battery. The ventilator should be left attached to the mains power supply when not in use unless the key switch is turned off.
