LycoVent

Based on a concept developed by MIT in 2010

and improved locally in Perth, Western Australia, the electrically operated ventilator is independent of piped oxygen supply, delivering breaths by compressing a conventional resuscitator bag with a pivoting cam arm, eliminating the need for a human operator.

With support from clinical anaesthetists and testing facilities at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital, the development of the unit took many months of prototyping, rigorous testing and documentation to support an application for an Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) listing with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

In July 2021, LycoVent successfully achieved its Export Only Listing

for use outside of Australia.  Lycopodium has donated two machines to Africa for usability trials to gain feedback from the field, and following this further testing, we will then be in a position to finalise the production version.

LycoVents will be donated to hospitals in Africa via the supply pathway provided through Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA).

Australian Doctors for Africa

Lycopodium has partnered with ADFA, a not-for-profit humanitarian aid organisation, to make LycoVent available to African hospitals where the need for such a device is considered significant, both in response to COVID and more broadly to supplement the limited healthcare options available.

ADFA’s mission is to develop healthier environments and to build capacity through the provision of voluntary medical assistance; training and teaching doctors, nurses and allied health workers; and improving infrastructure and providing medical equipment to communities in need.

Lycopodium Foundation

The Lycopodium Foundation was established in June 2021, to provide a formal vehicle for the administration of Lycopodium’s philanthropic, community engagement and sponsorship activities.

Foundation support is provided to initiatives that are aligned with the intrinsic philosophies and values of the Company and that promote positive partnerships, supporting the communities where we live and work.
The development and supply of LycoVent is a significant, long-term initiative supported by the Lycopodium Foundation.
